“They need to leave, these people are out of their minds,” one protester told television crews amid a massive police presence, including dozens of security officers around the Parliament building.

Retirees, alongside fans of various football teams, gathered on Wednesday afternoon outside the National Congress to demand an increase in their incomes and improvements in their living conditions.

With the massive support of the football community for the retirees’ cause, an iconic phrase from Diego Armando Maradona regained relevance this week: “You have to be a real coward not to defend retirees. I stand with the retirees to the death. What they’re doing to them is a disgrace.”

This statement from the Argentine football legend has become the rallying cry for the protest.
